A Wisconsin Family Ties parent peer specialist received the following email and photo from a parent, out of the blue. Thank you, Vicki, for letting us know how well Katelyn is doing!

It has been almost 2 years since I was a desperate Mom reaching out to you to help our family and our Katelyn. It is hard to believe now the terrible situation she was in and the chaos that surrounded her at school.
She is now a 5th grader. They have continued to advance the Ross Greene approach through the school district. She has a 1 to 1 para and is doing great. She is getting the support she needs. As a result she has gained confidence in her ability to be a good student. She is at grade level and has done more academics this year than ever before. She likes school and participates in groups with other kids. One teacher even described her as a model student!
You were there when we needed someone and had no where else to turn. You helped set us on this path so it only felt right to share our ongoing success with you. We are forever grateful for your help.
I have attached a picture of Katelyn before the Daddy Daughter dance a few weeks ago. You can see how she glows.
Thanks again!
Vicki

Kathy and her son are back together in their own home. When we first met Kathy (not her real name) two years ago, that outcome didn’t seem likely. She was living in a women’s shelter and receiving treatment for heroin addiction. During her time at the shelter, she relapsed. She was homeless, unemployed, and her son, who has mental health challenges, was in foster care.
Wisconsin Family Ties believes that all human beings are capable of, and desire, growth and improvement. We walked alongside Kathy, without judgment, providing emotional support and helping her navigate complex service and treatment systems for her and her son. Kathy worked hard…really hard. Today, she has a job, her own apartment, and has been reunited with her son.
Kathy’s story is just one from the nearly 500 families that were helped by Wisconsin Family Ties in 2017. You can help write the stories for hundreds of other families by donating to Wisconsin Family Ties. Because our help is needed more than ever, your help is needed more than ever.

We all need support at times.
Children like Nia may need a bit extra.
Nia had trouble concentrating and keeping her emotions under control. Her sweet nature was often overshadowed by her mental health symptoms. She needed help to reach her potential.
Wisconsin Family Ties connected with her. We taught the family to communicate in a unique way that defused tensions. We coached the school on specialized evidence-based practices to manage Nia’s challenging behavior. And we provided Nia with supported opportunities to make friends. Today she is doing well. And her helpful nature often makes others smile.
Please support children like Nia.
